Before attending your cabin crew interview, it’s wise to study some of the questions asked on a typical interview and perhaps do a role play answering them before the big day.
Why do I need to practice?
You need to practice these questions before the interview so you can show that you are an excellent communicator, place high value on great customer service, you need to be hard-working, proactive, have a good awareness of safety, be able to follow instructions and implement protocol, manage conflict and deal with difficult people and situations calmly…etc the list is pretty long and I’m sure you get the idea.
Some of the questions are broad and not related to cabin crew, for example, these impromptu speech questions. However, in this article, we’ll only mention the most common aviation questions asked during the interview along with answers.
Common interview questions
- Teamwork: please describe an occasion where you have collaborated successfully with others?
- High standards: please describe a time where you have exceeded work expectations?
- Problem-solving: can you share an example when you overcome a difficult challenge at work?
- Flexibility: have you had to cope with a new protocol at work? if yes, an example?
- Following instructions: tell us about a time when you had to follow a complex procedure?
- Customer service: please describe a time when you showed an excellent customer service?
- Integrity: please describe a time where you have shown complete honesty?
- Conflict management: tell us about a time you have dealt with a difficult customer?
- Confidence: please describe a time when you have coped well under pressure?
You are likely going to be asked questions in other areas too, for example:

Q: Why do you want to be a cabin crew?
This is something that I have always wanted to do. Ever since I flew on holiday as a child, I have aspired to a member of a cabin crew team. Although I enjoy my current job, I would now like a career that is more challenging, varied, and exciting.
I believe my own personal qualities would suit the role of a cabin crew member and I get great satisfaction from working in a team environment, where everybody is working towards the same goal.
Q: What do you think your strongest attributes are?
Below are some good personality traits that someone searching for a new cabin crew attendant will be on the lookout for. Pick the one that bests suit you, and personalize your answer:
- Good communication and listening skills
- Confident and firm while still remaining friendly
- Outgoing and charming with an eagerness to help others
- Independent, fast-learner who works well without supervision
- Strong, fearless leader with good teamwork skills
- Empathetic person who will go the distance for others

Q: Do you work better in a team, or alone?
For this questions, you absolutely do not want to tell the interviewer that it depends on the specific situation. Even if it does, and even if you are an adaptable individual, answer according to the position you’re applying for.
You can still bend it a little to show you’re adaptable, but answer either way. For example, you could say: I prefer working with others as part of a group effort, working towards a similar goal or objective, but I also do enjoy when each teammate has a share of work that they are responsible for completing independently.
Even when working independently, it’s important and enjoyable to know the way your efforts fit into the collective efforts of the group, and how you are all working together to achieve success, no matter what the form.
Q: Recall a time when you had to handle an unruly customer. How did you resolve the ensuing conflict?
I worked part-time in a department store and a customer came to me demanding a refund for a faulty product. However, the customer had no proof of purchase. In this case, it was the store’s policy to return the product to the manufacturer.
When I explained this to the customer she became very irate. However, I could see that it was not personal and I applied the training I had been given (listening to the customer, responding kindly to her and firmly restating the company policy). In this case, as in most cases, this was successful.
Q: What would you do if you saw another cabin crew member being rude to a passenger?
I would try and soften the situation by offering the passengers free drinks or refreshments. I would say to them that I was extremely sorry for what had happened and that I can assure him/her that it won’t happen again. I would then assess their response to see whether or not they wanted to take the matter further. If they did, then I would speak to my senior member of the cabin crew team.
Having said that, reporting a work colleague would be a last resort and I would try my hardest to resolve the situation on my own.
Q: What are your hobbies?
This is mostly a trick question, testing again for your general people skills and enjoyment of team-based activities.
while you shouldn’t lie about this questions – or any – you should consider placing an emphasis on the hobbies you enjoy in the company of others. If you say something like cooking, and hosting dinner parties, it will let you show off your hospitality skills, and ability to manage many people at once.

The most inescapable question during any cabin crew interview is ‘why do you want to be a cabin crew?‘ and you definitely need to give this question some thought on how to answer it.
How about this for an answer!
Tell them your story, when was the first time you thought about it, what did you do to get closer to chase your dream, what motivates you to become a flight attendant?
A little inside information that will show them not only your desire and motivation but also your skills that will put you “up there” with the high performers and ambassadors of the airline.
Talk from the heart and give them your full commitment. If you truly want it, you cannot fail eventually.
